Completed Task: 42. Complete the 26 Things Scavanger Hunt.
After having given up almost all hope in being able to participate in the 26 Things project, I managed to visit the site at just the right time….when a new challenge had been posted.
For those of you unfamiliar with the 26 Things project here is a quick summary. The 26 Things project is a photography challenge where you are given a random list of 26 words which you then go and take a photo for each word. For a more detailed look at the project or to watch for the next challenge, visit here.
The list for this round was:

My results were as follows
Completed Task: 72. Resolve OU complaint
I won’t go into all the boring details about the complaint but the end result was that the OU owed me some money and getting it appeared to be a battle of wills. While I thought Dutch organizations were awful at customer service, the OU seemed to be taking it one step further with poor response times, losing letters and point blank rudeness.
Luckily the issue was resolved towards the end of last year when I finally got my refund. So why didn’t I mark the task of the list then? Well because I logged in to look at my record only to see a fail mark next to a class rather than a withdrawl. Thinking I was now going to have to fight this battle I put the whole thing to the side to deal with in 2009.
However I have just logged in and see that the fail has been removed, meaning the complaint is well and truly resolved. Case closed…thank goodness!
My 101 List
In December 2007, while surfing the Internet, I came across a random 101 list. Firstly, from this 101 list I found out about a number of interesting ideas, websites and projects to take part in. Secondly I learned all about the world of 101 in 1001.
The Mission:
Complete 101 pre-set tasks in a period of 1001 days. See Day Zero for more information.
The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).
Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past – frequently simple goals such as New Year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.
I never did find that 101 list again but I am glad that I stumbled across it as I have gained a lot from it. As have my many friends and family members that have gone on to create their own 101 in 1001.
Below is my 101 list which started on January 1st 2008 and is set to finish on September 28th 2010.
